WHAT  House Renovation

WHERE  Ramat Gan, Israel

WHEN  2016

The ground floor of this 1980s private house in Ramat Gan was redesigned by Maya Sheinberger to strengthen the relationship between the existing architecture, the garden and the family’s everyday life. Rather than replacing the original floor plan, the renovation focused on architectural interventions that would transform how the spaces feel and connect. The front garden was raised with a new wooden deck to meet the interior floor level, while a large corner window opened the living area toward the outdoors, creating a continuous space for family life and entertaining. Inside, the ceiling was reworked to improve lighting and spatial flow, and the original floors and staircase were resurfaced with concrete microtopping. A custom double-sided wooden bookcase serves as both a defining element in the living room and a staircase balustrade, while three circular dining-room windows frame unexpected views of the surrounding greenery. White brick, concrete, wood and black metal form a restrained architectural backdrop for the family’s existing art and collected objects, giving the renovated ground floor a contemporary yet personal character.
