WHAT Apartment Renovation
WHERE Ramat Gan, Israel
WHEN 2018
An original stone wall became the starting point for the renovation of this 1970s apartment in central Ramat Gan. Interior designer Maya Sheinberger preserved the existing feature while completely rebuilding the public areas around it, creating an open-plan interior for a family that loves cooking and entertaining. The new kitchen is arranged along two parallel lines, providing generous preparation space alongside an informal dining counter for everyday meals. Concrete-inspired flooring and dark gray cabinetry establish a restrained, industrial material palette, balanced by walnut, stainless steel and the irregular texture of the original stone. Custom-designed elements give the space additional function without disrupting its minimalist character: a steel and walnut media unit was created for the living room, while a built-in bar disappears behind large white doors when not in use. The result brings the apartment’s 1970s architecture into a contemporary setting, using contrast between original materials and precise new interventions to create its identity.
